EARTH DAY
by Alex Abad-Santos

Article Tools Sponsored By

April 22nd this year is Earth Day, and people everywhere are pitching in to help our planet. Since its inception in 1970, millions of people have marched in the streets to protest environmental destruction and our government’s refusal to work with other countries to reduce water pollution, toxic waste, and greenhouse gases. As part of this year’s effort to mobilize people into action, The Green Apple Festival (www.greenapplemusicalfestival.com) will feature 500 performances in 200 events—each of them carbon neutral. Originally, the festival took place in only three cities: New York, Chicago, and San Francisco. Thanks to a concerted effort, however, the fest will expand to ten more cities this year, including our nation’s capital. Really though, every day needs to be Earth Day if we hope to stop global warming and save our planet. www.earthday.net
