2010 INTERNATIONAL
GAY FILM FESTIVALS
by Tricia Manzanero

Since the invention of the first motion picture camera in 1867, movies have been a means to entertain as well as debate, inspire, and educate. This year, over 100 LGBT film festivals around the world will showcase cinema’s multi-purpose potential by featuring movies ranging from uplifting love stories to controversial commentaries on homophobia.

With filmmakers from around the world offering a spellbinding array of subjects and styles, there will be something for moviegoers of every taste at this year’s LGBT film festivals. In 2010, San Francisco celebrated three decades of gay cinema, while cities like Mumbai hosted their first events to date. Here is a selection of film festivals from six continents that continue to illuminate the lives, dreams, and concerns of LGBT people everywhere.

(Editor's Note: Some of the following film festivals have already taken place. They are included here so you can plan for next year!)

The first Puerto Vallarta International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (PVIGLFF) celebrates with four days of LGBT films from Thursday, April 28th, through Sunday, May 1st, 2011, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico.

reelpridemichigan is not taking place. I called equality michigan today and that is what they told me.

Passport misses one of the most relevant gay film festivals in my opinion: Montreal International LGBT Film Festival, in the Gay Capital of Canada. Image+Nation is a key.
