There is something about summer that brings out the romantic and the hedonist in all of us. It is the time of year when most people manage to turn the two-day weekend into three; when instead of heading to the office, we head to the beach. In most of Europe, the whole month of August is considered a holiday! There, people flock en masse to the verdant countryside, the majestic mountains, and the soothing shore. Nature and all its beauty and abundance is celebrated by hundreds of millions of people. Eating ice cream becomes an international pastime for "kids" of all ages. People who never ride bikes pedal proudly down the street, and men and women with less-than-perfect gym bodies delight in being half naked. Long, leisurely lunches become the norm, while sundowners with friends old and new spark welcome emotions of love and desire.
Summer is the season during which we most appreciate our planet and all that it provides. Anything seems possible, and our dreams come that much closer to reality. My dream this summer is that 20 years from now we will have done something to stop global warming. That clean water and healthy food will be available to all, and that everyone will share equally in the riches of our planet. Just consider this: pollution is man-made; poverty is man-made; homelessness is man-made. Share your love, joy, and prosperity. Make the world a better place.
"It's a smile, it's a kiss, it's a sip of wine ... it's summertime!"
Summer is kind of like the ultimate one-night stand:
hot as hell, totally thrilling, and gone before you know it.
