“When people ask me how to describe my style sometimes I say ‘Just imagine if Biggie Smalls ate Donna Summer for Breakfast."

What's there to say about Cazwell? You probably first became aware of him when his first single "It's All Over Your Face" was banned by LOGO for its explicit content (of course you can see it here after the jump). Those who missed that controversy couldn't have not heard the gay-bar staple "I've Seen Beyonce at Burger King." The best part about Cazwell is he doesn't take himself too seriously—he has fun with everything he does. He says of his music, “When I go to a club I want to party, and I want to make music that makes other people want to party. I’m not necessarily trying to make people think too hard, I’m trying to make them dance,” he told Peace Bisquit. Cazwell is also known for his collaborations with NYC nightlife legends Amanda Lepore and Lady Fag; he even worked with Lady Gaga on the track "Just Dance."

FM Belfast

Let's give our friends in Iceland credit for bringing some great musical talent to the scene. FM Belfast is a band from Reykjavik, who I had the privilege of seeing on my last visit. These guys truly put on one of the most entertaining shows I had ever been to. Never having heard one of their songs, it was surprising when my friends and I found ourselves dancing along to all their songs.

Music has always been a part of Swedish-born, dance-pop queen, Robin Miriam Carlsson (or as we've come to know her for the past 13 years as Robyn). Robyn spent the first seven years of her life touring with her director father and actress mother in their Constructivist-inspired theatre company. At the age of 13, she was discovered by Swedish pop singer Meja when singing a sad, self-written song about her parents’ divorce in a school workshop. She was immediately signed to BMG.

A debut album of R&B-influenced pop in 1995 saw her paired with Max Martin, and the global success of the single "Show Me Love" in 1997 cemented Robyn as an international pop star. After releasing two followup albums, Robyn grew disenchanted with the way mainstream American music was produced. She wanted her voice back. After returning to Sweden, Robyn continued to release singles, which kept her on the top of the charts.

After a decade-long relationship with Jive, Robyn began her own record label called Konichiwa Records—she was finally able to experiment with new music genres and show off her unique ideas through song and video. Her newest album, Body Talk Part 1 (Release June 15) is already making waves in the music world. Check out the video for her newest single "Dancing on my Own," which was just released today. She says was inspired by "sad, gay disco anthems such as Ultravox's "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes", Sylvester, and Donna Summer" so enjoy!

Gossip

Last night Paul West and I hit up Paper Magazine's 13th annual Beautiful People Party, and we finally got to see one of our favorite bands live. Gossip performed a short set, and lead singer, Beth Ditto, killed it! The band originally formed in Washington, but is now based out of Portland, Oregon. They signed to Music With a Twist, a subsidiary of Sony Music Label Group, concentrating on LGBT music acts. During the summer of 2007, Gossip was a part of the True Colors Tour, which traveled through 15 cities in the United States and Canada. Profits from the tour went to benefit the Human Rights Campaign. This year, Gossip was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for "Outstanding Music Artist" for their album Music for Men. Kate Nash

One of our favorite Brits, Kate Nash, has finally released a new single off her much-anticipated, follow-up album My Best Friend is You. (April 20 US release date). Nash ignited the UK and US music scene with her first record Made of Bricks. Her ridiculously catchy single Foundations reached number two in the UK. Check out her new single Do Wah Doo below, Nash plays a sexy flight attendant.

Fatal Bazooka

Fatal Bazooka is a rap group from France. They were formed in 2002 on the comedy, sketch-show Morning Live. Check out their hilarious video for their 5th single Parle à Ma Main (Talk to the Hand).

The Haus of GaGa

After watching Lady GaGa open for New Kids on the Block last year (yeah I saw them), I thought it would take a miracle for me to fall in love with her. That miracle happened this week with the video release for her first single, Bad Romance, off the highly anticipated sophomore CD, The Fame Monster.

LACROSSE

Lacrosse has been around since 2005, but have recently blown up since their song, "You Can't Say No Forever" was featured on the UK hit show Skins. Henrik, Kristian, Nina, Rickard, Robert and Tobias grew up in different towns throughout Sweden, but currently live in Stockholm. They have released two albums, "This New Year Will Be for You and Me" (November, 2007) and "Bandages for the Heart" (May, 2009) which both have been released by Tapete Records. Their folk pop sound will be perfect for your Labor Day cocktail.

This indie band from London combines everything we love, the indie-dance vibe with a soulful singer! Singer Shingai Shoniwa adds to the list of the UK's growing number of soul sisters... Adele, Duffy, Amy. Their single 'Don't Upset the Rhythm (Go Baby Go)' reached the number two spot on the UK Singles Chart this past spring.
