The New iPhone! Buyer Beware!

Is it time for Apple, Dell, HP and others to take their business out of China?

The recent suicides by 12 people working at the Foxconn factories in China is a tragic reminder that not enough is being done to protect workers from horrible working conditions and low pay. The fact that Apple has known about these working conditions for years is appalling. We call upon Apple, Dell, and HP to take their business out of China and bring it back to America where the jobs are most needed.

India's First LGBT Shop Opens

Gay Pride in India

India's first LGBT-store has opened in Mumbai, a little over a year since their first gay-pride parade.

The pride shop is called Azaad Bazaar, and it sells a range of items, such as mugs, t-shirts, and ashtrays. The store owner (who refuses to reveal her full name) hopes that the items will encourage pride amongst the LGBT community. Other items push for political action, like banning Section 377 that prohibits sexual relations that go "against the order of nature." While homosexuality was decriminalized in July 2009, the case to officially ban 377 is still in the Supreme Court. People have been buying mugs and t-shirts with saying like "Equal Rights 377" and "Ban 377." [HindustanTimes]

Nepal Hosts Symposium to Attract LGBT Visitors

US-based Community Marketing Inc., a leader in gay and lesbian market research, has teamed up with human rights organization Blue Diamond Society, and a number of private tour operators to host an LGBT tourism symposium on February 26 in Nepal. The event, supported by several Nepal-based tourism organizations, is the first of its kind in Asia. Although the program has not yet been announced 200 representatives of travel and tour operators, airlines, and journalists are expected to show up. Officials are hoping for a huge influx of LGBT tourists. Nepal legalized homosexuality in 2007 and has introduced a slew of new laws that will further protect gay men and lesbians. [TKP]
