"When a person falls in love, the universe—and everything in it—come vividly alive."
San Francisco artist and DJ Page Hodel said that and learned it the beautiful way when she met the love of her life, Madalene Rodriguez. As a token of her love, every Monday morning, Page created a unique, heart-shaped work of art that Madalene would wake to and discover at her front door. Their love was cut short when Madalene died of ovarian cancer less than a year after they met, but the book monday hearts for MADALENE (Stewart, Tabori & Chang, $16.95) is a photographic collection of one hundred of Page's hearts for Madalene. These are no mere doilies cut out like a valentine, these are elaborate amalgamations of everything from putty knives to postage stamps, acorns, asparagus, berries, buttons, bungee cord, clothespins, corks, and more. Page continues to create her hearts for Madalene to share with her family and friends each Monday morning...a valentine every week.
