"Naked" Polar Bear Cruise in New York

Last Year's Polar Bear Cruise

Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises and The Coney Island Polar Bear Club are teaming up on Saturday, February 27th to host the second annual “Naked” Polar Bear Cruise (bathing suit required) to benefit the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Participating passengers are encouraged to strip down to their bathing suits and enjoy a frosty ride while they raise money to help WCS save wildlife and wild places around the globe. Join these do-good crazzies on Saturday, February 27th at 10:30 A.M. on Pier 83 (West 42nd St. on the Hudson).

Those brave enough to withstand the chilly cruise of the New York Harbor are encouraged to seek individual sponsors who will donate for each minute spent on deck. Sponsor forms are available online here.

If the cold gets to be to much, there will be an inside area where participants can bundle up and enjoy complimentary hot chocolate.

Obama's Tourism Plan for the Moon

Under new proposals set by the Obama administration, commercial spaceships could be taking travelers to the moon as soon as 2020.

The governments decision to commit $6 billion over the next five years to spaceflights could help create 5,000 jobs in the United Sates and help NASA avoid paying billions of dollars to the space station.

Elon Musk, founder of the commercial spaceflight venture Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) addressed critics who doubt the safety of space tourism. He compared the issue to how airline travelers fly today on commercial airlines without a second thought because safety has become a universal standard for airlines. He and other space entrepreneurs said that they too must hold to the highest safety standards to remain competitive.

“Safety-wise, we are the least able to afford mishaps,” said Robert Bigelow, head of the Las Vegas, Nevada-based firm Bigelow Aerospace, which is building inflatable space hotels, told space.com.

Bigelow said that his company plans to launch several private space stations within the next decade and he looked forward to commercial spaceflight beyond the confines of low-Earth orbit. “By 2020 you’ll have seen private citizens circumnavigate the moon,” said Eric Anderson of Space Adventures, the only company currently selling space tourist flights to orbit. Nude Art Installation Planned for Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras

Spencer Tunick Working in Düsseldorf, Germany

Photographer Spencer Tunick has caused quite the stir in his career. He started with a bang in New York City when he summoned 20 people to gallivant naked through NYC. This naked run almost lead to his arrest. Who would have guessed that today his nude photoshoots contain thousands of naked men and women?

Tunick has some big plans for his next great photo. He said his photo, which is planned for the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney was inspired by an important cause, “I’m an advocate of gay marriage and equal rights for the gay community, so I want the straight community to come out and pose with the gay and lesbian community and show their support,” he said.

“By creating this interwoven natural base for the Sydney Opera House it will show the fabric of Sydney—an open society: open to art, open to lifestyles, open to understanding and equality.” [Wentworth]
