With their toned heroes and heroines sporting skin-tight super suits, what’s not to love about comics? Prism Comics makes it their mission to support the LGBT comics, creators, and readers who agree. The nonprofit will again appear at the San Diego Comic-Con International, one of the world’s largest pop-culture conventions, held at the San Diego Convention Center from July 21-25. This year, however, Prism will boast bigger booth space and feature nearly a dozen comic creators under its banner. A few on its list are Chares “Zan” Christensen (Mark of Aecus), Justin Hall (Glazmania), Steve MacIsaac (Shirtlifter), and special guest Howard Cruse, creator of Wendel and founding editor of Gay Comix. Besides meet-and-greets, Prism will also offer a series of epic, entertainment-filled panels like “Divas and Golden Lassos: The LGBT Obsession with Super Heroines” and “Writing Queer: Creating and Writing LGBT Characters.” Even after a busy day at Comic-Con, however, be sure to power up for the Heroes Vs. Villains Afterparty on July 23 at Rich’s Nightclub. Come in costume and admission is free until midnight, or enter the Sexy Underoos Contest and you could go home with $200. Who knows, you might just meet your Clark Kent or Lois Lane too.
