Iceland’s 2012 Aquatic Gay Games
May 30, 2012 marks the opening day of International Gay and Lesbian Aquatic Championship in Reykjavik, Iceland. There is an opening party that night at the famous Blue Lagoon, and the championship lasts for four days. Events this year include water polo, relay events, synchronized swimming, diving, and lap swimming. On June 1st, there will be a midnight open water swimming challenge in the Nauthólsvík neighborhood of Reykjavik. Nauthólsvík is geothermal man-made beach, and this event is only for the toughest of athletes who can handle the northern Atlantic. Iceland has a great gay-friendly atmosphere, and Reykjavík, believe it or not, is a great destination for swimmers because of the geothermal pools.
