Brett Ratner’s Oscar Replacement’s Anti-Gay Controversy

With Brett Ratner’s quick departure as Oscar producer over his “Rehearsal’s-for-fags” comment, you would think that the Academy would choose his replacement with a bit more circumspection. Pretty shockingly, they didn’t. Brian Grazer will now produce the Billy Crystal extravaganza—unfortunately, his politically correct track record is filled with enough offenses that it prompted GLAAD to issue a statement last year. See, Grazer produced bro-comedy The Dilemma, which came under heavy fire over its offensive use of the word “gay.” The main character, played by Vince Vaughn, called electric cars the word. It was bad enough that this not-so-funny, offensive joke wasn’t left on the cutting room floor, producers thought that it was good enough to be used in the movie’s trailer. This prompted cries from the LGBT community, and Universal decided to pull the joke from the trailer, but it was not scrapped from the movie. [Queerty] via [LATimes]
