Jewlyes Gutierrez, a 16-year-old transgender teenager, who has been repeatedly bullied is now facing criminal charges after she finally stuck up for herself. She says that after she approached her vice principal to try to make it stop, nothing changed and decided to defend herself. A fight ultimately broke out between the three other students and all received a suspension. The Contra Costa County district attorney, though, singled out Jewlyes with a criminal charge of battery, despite a video showing the teen trying to get away from the attacks.
