With Hawaii and Illinois, More than 1/3 of Americans Live in a State with Marriage Equality

This month alone, both Hawaii and Illinois brought the total number of states that allow gay and lesbian marriage to 15 in addition to the District of Columbia. While this is certainly historical, the true milestone comes when looking at the US population. Adding these two states, one in three Americans now live where gay and lesbian marriage is legal. This shift is also reflected in the general populations attitude toward same-sex marriage. Recent polls show well over 50% of Americans now approve gay marriage. [CNN]
