Jamaica Calls For ‘Unconditional Love’ of Gay Citizens

Progressive Jamaicans are urging other people in their country to be accepting of their LGBT family members in a new series of public service announcements launched by advocacy group J-FLAG, Jamaica Forum of Lesbian, All-Sexuals, and Gays. The current ad features Christine Straw, former Miss Jamaica World and Miss Jamaica Universe, along with her gay brother Matthew.

Jamaica has had a long and violent history of anti-LGBT attitudes, which has in the past led lesbians and gays of the island nation to seek asylum in more tolerant countries. It is the hope of those involved that these ads will help to mitigate anti-LGBT feelings in Jamaica.
