Gay Sitcom Series ‘Husbands’ will Air on CW’s Online Platform

The tongue-in-cheek, gay online series ‘Husbands’ has been picked up by the CW for the television company’s online branch. The series began in 2011 airing on video sites such as YouTube, blip, and Roku as the first marriage -equality comedy.  For those of you who have yet to watch an episode, the plot centers around a gay actor and gay baseball player who wake up in Vegas married and decide to stay married. The show’s channel has 25,000 subscribers and has had over 200,00 views. Although the CW does not have plans to put the series on television yet, there is potential for further development, executives hope to gain a new following for the webiseries and are giving the creators an incentive to continue developing it with funding for new episodes. “‘Husbands’ has been a critically-acclaimed, user-friendly YouTube series for two seasons,” said  Rick Haskins, exec veep of marketing and digital programs at CW. “By bringing that to the CW, we hope to bring new fans over to the network and to CW broadcast shows as well.” [Variety]
