Debra Messing Returns to NBC

If you’ve been missing Grace Adler from “Will & Grace” (and really who isn’t?), then you’re about to get some great news! Debra Messing, the flame-haired comedienne who portrayed the interior designer for eight seasons on the classic NBC sitcom, has just joined an NBC pilot in a role that sounds pretty similar.
The show, which is currently titled “Smash,” is based on an idea by Steven Spielberg. The hour-long drama will center around a group of people trying to put on a Broadway show about Marilyn Monroe. Messing will be playing a lyricist working with a gay man to mount the production.
Apparently, the show was originally developed for Showtime, but when head of entertainment Bob Greenblatt moved to NBC he took the project with him. So what do you think? Does ‘Smash’ sound like a hit? Or is Messing just doing Grace 2.0?
