Priscilla Queen of the Desert To Open in New York!
Move over La Cage, there are some new queens heading for the Great White Way. The ladies of Priscilla Queen of the Desert are finally strutting their way across the pond and over to North America! With the announcement that West Side Story will be leaving the Palace Theatre, these ferocious drag queens plan on moving in. Previews are set to begin on February 28 with an official opening on March 20. The NYC bound production of Priscilla Queen of the Desert is currently dazzling audiences at Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre, where it will finish a 12-week engagement. Tickets for preview performances are now available at Ticketmaster.
The show originally opened in Sydney way back in 2006 and went on to become the most successful Australian musical of all time. After its initial success, it journeyed to London’s West End where it garnered universal praise. The Daily Express wrote: “Loud, lewd, and lavish, it’s about as subtle as a smack in the teeth with a didgeridoo, but who cares when it’s this much fun?” For tickets to the London show, click here.
For any of the gays who don’t know, the play is an adaptation from the movie by Stephan Elliott and Allan Scott. It brings with it a hugely talented cast that includes, Olivier Award nominee Tony Sheldon as Bernadette, Tony nominee Will Swenson as Tick/Mitzi, and Nick Adams as Adam/Felicia. [Broadway]
