Producer of Gay-Themed Uganda Play Released on Bail
Finally some good news out of Uganda. Remember when we were excited to see that the country was holding its first gay-themed play, and then we were completely saddened to find out the play was promptly shut down and the producer, David Cecil, was arrested? Well after being held behind bars since September for staging the play The River and the Mountain for promoting homosexuality, Cecil was freed on $200 bail. “Today’s [Wednesday's] outcome demonstrates there is a functioning judiciary in Uganda and it has restored my faith in Ugandan society,” Cecil told the BBC.
