Imaan, the UK’s gay Muslim Organization is holding its 5th International LGBTQI Muslim Conference from August 24-27. This event is open primarily to LGBTQI Muslims, their friends, and their families, although all are welcome. The conference consists of debates, activities, workshops, and performances by a variety of members of the Muslim community. The community comes from all over the UK to London to enjoy this safe place to address issues concerning their sexual orientation and discuss individual experiences as well as research pertaining to this topic. The aim of this conference is to incorporate Islam’s peaceful views into a potentially healing environment. With beginnings in 1998, Imaan, along with the conference, teaches and “promotes the Islamic values of peace, social justice, and tolerance through its work, and aspires to bring about a world that is free from prejudice and discrimination against all Muslims and LGBT people.”
