With over 2/3 of African countries criminalizing homosexual acts, South Africa, appropriately called “Rainbow Nation,” is looking to overtake Rio, Toronto, and Tel Aviv as the world’s favorite gay destination. With gay travel taking in approximately  $80 billion, it is a goal that has many benefits for the country. The BBC reports on the various aspects that make South Africa a hot spot for the gay jet set including the only gay-only hotel, it’s constitutional acceptance of the gay community, and its various gay and lesbian festivals.

Last year, South Africa had 200,000 gay tourists, which means that 10% of all its tourists were gay. [BBC]
