Those crazy Aussies know how to have a great time, so
join in on the lighthearted festivities at this years
Brisbane Pride Festival. Designed in 1990 as a means of
promoting public events, the month-long festival has blossomed
into an extravaganza that attracts more than 50,000 festival-goers.
Mark your calendars: June 14 is Brisbane Rally, and be
sure to save up your stamina for the ensuing pub crawl.

WELLINGTON
Knock, knock. Theres always time for some
funny business. Wellington plays host to the International
Laugh Festival, April 20May 10. With an array
of LGBT comics known locally and globally, its
a good bet that your funny bone will be tickled. Sometimes
all you can do is laugh at a situation, and its
no surprise that stand-up comedy has been a platform
for our perspectives and views to be heard. http://www.laugh.co.nz
TASMANIA
HOBART
Its racing toward summertime in the States,
and winter is one of the last things on our minds. Below
the equator, things are a bit different. Hobart hosts
the Antarctic Midwinter Festival from June 2029
to celebrate the winter solstice. This special event
marks the shortest day and the longest night of the
Antarctic year. Of course, having the longest night
of the year lends itself to a vibrant nightlife, and
this festival delivers: The Longest Night Film Festival,
Solstice Party, and Antarctic Midwinter Dinner take
advantage of the nocturnal shift. Daytime activities
include the Huskies Picnic, Umundsen High Tea, and One
Planet Extreme Photo Competition. http://www.antarctic-tasmania.info
